News:

Cardiff is a vibrant multicultural city. There are many organisations in Cardiff that carry out numerous activities throughout the year. The Welsh Government is very supportive of community activities. The First Minister of Cardiff Rt Hon Mark Drakeford and other ministers actively participate in the community events.

Cardiff has many Indian Community organisations. They organise different festival celebrations in Cardiff.

Additionally, Cardiff is fortunate to have a very active Honorary Consul for India with jurisdiction for Wales. Captain Raj Kumar Aggarwal, OBE DL was appointed as Honorary Consul IN 2012. Since then he has been instrumental in leading many initiatives in Cardiff. One of the key milestones was installing a 6 ft bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi near the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff in 2017. And in 2021, Sikh and Hindu ashes scattering sites opened in Cardiff. The site at Llandaff Rowing Club in Cardiff, on the River Taff, is the first of its kind in Wales. In 2019, a grand event was held on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Indian Independence Day Celebration occurs in a grand way in Cardiff Castle every year.

Key events that happened in Cardiff since 2022:

International Yoga Day: The International Yoga Day celebration was organised at Cardiff Castle on the 26th of June 2022.

Indian Independence Day Celebration: On the 15th of August 2022, the 76th Independence Day was celebrated.

Diwali Celebration:

The festival of lights was celebrated in a grand way at Sophia Gardens on the 26th of October 2022. Rt Hon First Minister Mark Drakeford, Health Minister Elluned Morgan, Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, Representatives from armed forces, and community members joined the celebration.

Republic Day Celebration:

The 74th Republic Day Celebration was held at Swami Narayan Temple, Cardiff.

Holi celebration:

The vibrant Holi celebration occurred at Cardiff Castle on the 19th of March 2022. Hundreds of people joined the celebration and enjoyed the festival of colours.

The Honorary Consul of India- Wales is organising the Indian Independence Day Celebration on the 15th of August 2023 at Cardiff Castle(CF10 3RB). Independence Day celebration is a proud moment for Indian Diaspora. The event will commence at 12pm and conclude at 1 pm. The flag raising ceremony will include musical performances by the Army Band, with a special fanfare as guests arrive. The band will play the Indian, UK, and Welsh national anthems.
