Indian Heritage Centre UK – Soft Launch in Cardiff:

Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) UK began its journey with a successful soft launch on 7th October 2023 in Cardiff, embracing its core message, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World is One Family.”

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the Rt Hon Honorary Consul of India Capt Raj Aggarwal, Cllr Jasmin Chowdhury, Major Peter Harrison, Suzanne Lynch (Royal Navy), representatives from TÅ· Krishna Cymru, and leaders from various community organisations. Founder and CEO Adv Tripti Megeri welcomed attendees and shared IHC’s vision of promoting cultural heritage, inclusion, and community cohesion. The programme featured a devotional Ganesha prayer by Dr Girish and an engaging workshop on Social Inclusion, Exclusion, and Cohesion led by Dr Sunil Pulapaka, supported by Executive Committee members - Mr Pradeep H, Dr Deepak Megeri, Dr Govind Menon, Mr Hiren Joshi, Dr Ravindran, and Prof Satish B.K. The event marked a significant milestone for IHC UK, laying the groundwork for future community engagement and cultural initiatives.

Stroke Awareness Event – Cardiff- 2 December 2023

Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted a successful Stroke Awareness Event in Cardiff, focusing on prevention and early recognition. We sincerely thank Dr Hamsaraj Shetty for his informative session, and Nurse Sarah and Ruth for offering blood pressure checks to attendees. A special highlight was an inspiring presentation by 13-year-old Raima, whose cycling journey was warmly appreciated. We also thank Khushi Shetty, Samyukta Megeri, our dedicated volunteers, and all members who attended and supported the event. We look forward to continuing our quarterly Health and Wellbeing initiatives for the community.

Sankranti Utsav – Unity in Diversity: January 2024

Indian Heritage Centre UK successfully hosted Sankranti Utsav – Unity in Diversity on 20 January 2024, welcoming over 325 attendees from diverse backgrounds in a vibrant celebration of culture and community. We were honoured by the presence of the First Minister of Wales, Mr Mark Drakeford, alongside His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Mrs Morfudd Meredith and the High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Prof Jean White CBE, as well as local councillors and community leaders. The event began with a welcome address from Founder and CEO Adv Tripti Megeri, followed by inspiring guest messages and an informative talk on the significance of Sankranti by Miss Kushi Shetty. The evening featured outstanding performances by talented cultural groups from across the UK. We sincerely thank our performers, anchors, committee members, sponsors, and all attendees for making this maiden stage event a remarkable success. We look forward to your continued support at future IHC UK events.

Diabetes Management & Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Event, Cardiff: February 2024

Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) Cardiff hosted a Diabetes Management and Healthy Lifestyle Awareness event as part of its Health and Wellbeing initiative. We were honoured to welcome Mr Ramesh Chandra Patel, one of the longest-serving councillors in Cardiff from the Indian community, having served for 21 years in several respected Cabinet positions. Passionate about health and fitness, Mr Patel is also a fully qualified personal trainer. During the session, he highlighted the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise, and proactive diabetes management. His practical insights and engaging delivery generated excellent interaction and a very positive response from attendees. We sincerely thank Mr Ramesh Patel for his valuable time and contribution.

International Women’s Day 2024 Celebration, Cardiff: March 2024

Indian Heritage Centre UK celebrated International Women’s Day 2024 in Cardiff with an inspiring and well-attended event for women of Indian origin. The programme opened with a welcome by Founder & CEO Mrs Tripti Megeri, followed by a prayer song by Dr Girish. We were honoured to host keynote speakers Dr Smitha Mundasad (BBC Reporter), Ms Riya Burrage-Male (International Athlete), and Dr Kavitha Pasunuru (Consultant in Child Psychiatry), who shared powerful insights on career journeys, challenges for women in sport, cultural expectations, and “Empty Nest Syndrome.” The interactive discussions were engaging and thought-provoking. The event also recognised Dr Rekha Girish and Dr Leena Menon for their valuable contributions to promoting Indian arts and culture in Cardiff. We thank our speakers, volunteers, committee members, and all attendees for making the celebration a meaningful success.

Autism Awareness Day by Indian Heritage Centre UK: May 2024

The Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted an informative Autism Awareness Day on 4th May 2024, rescheduled from April, to raise understanding and awareness about autism, a condition that remains challenging for society at large. The event featured an insightful talk by Dr Sunil Pulapaka, Neuro-Developmental Psychiatrist, who shared expertise on autism, addressing common misconceptions and highlighting the importance of early intervention and support. His presentation was followed by an interactive session, allowing attendees to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the condition, its impact, and strategies to support individuals on the spectrum. The Centre extends sincere thanks to Dr Pulapaka for his informative and engaging talk, and to all participants for their attendance and continued support. The Autism Awareness Day successfully provided the community with knowledge, resources, and tools to better understand and support individuals with autism.

International Yoga Day Celebrations in Cardiff: June 2024

Indian Heritage Centre UK celebrated International Yoga Day on 22 June 2024 in Cardiff, bringing together community members, dignitaries and cultural performers in a vibrant showcase of wellbeing and unity. The event was honoured by the presence of His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan, the High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, the Honorary Consul of India (Wales), senior clinicians, councillors and community leaders, all of whom praised IHC UK’s work in promoting Indian culture, health and harmony across Wales. The programme featured a serene Yoga session led by Mrs. Rekha Girish, followed by cultural performances from students of Rekha Natya Academy. Anchors Dr. Ravindra Ravi and Ms. Riya Kale guided the event, with Ms. Kale highlighting the significance of Yoga in Indian tradition. A devotional opening by Dr. Girish G added to the atmosphere of peace and reflection. Founder & CEO Adv. Tripti Megeri delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of dignitaries, performers, volunteers, parents, and sponsors, including Lifeline, Cardiff Safe Deposit, and Cardiff Gold. The celebration reflected IHC UK’s ongoing commitment to community wellbeing and cultural enrichment.

Early Indian Independence Day Celebration at the Indian Heritage Centre: August 2024

The Indian Heritage Centre celebrated an early Indian Independence Day on 3rd August 2024 with a mix of history, art, and patriotism. The event opened with a welcome speech by Mrs Tripti Megeri and the National Anthem, filling the room with pride and unity. Dr Padma Anagol gave an insightful talk on “Making the Indian Nation: Gandhi & Indian People’s Participation in the Freedom Struggle”, highlighting the pivotal role of women in India’s freedom movement. Ms Prith B, artist from Cardiff University, showcased her evocative paintings on pre- and post-independence Indian women, adding a creative touch to the celebration. The atmosphere was further energized by Dr Girish Kothegal’s patriotic songs, leaving everyone uplifted. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and recognition of volunteers and contributors, followed by a delicious vegetarian meal enjoyed by all. It was a day of learning, inspiration, and community spirit in honor of India’s independence.

Annual Event: Bollywood Live Music at Indian Heritage Centre Cardiff: October 2024

The Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted a vibrant Bollywood Live Music evening on 5th October 2024 at Stanwell School, Cardiff, with music lovers joining from across South Wales. The event, featuring the Euphonics Band, was filled with energy, music, and dance. Anchored by Dr Sunil Pulapaka and Mrs Anushree Patnaik, the evening began with a traditional Hindu Lamp Lighting Ceremony and a warm welcome by Mrs Tripti Megeri, highlighting the Centre’s past year of cultural, social, and health-focused events. Guests enjoyed live performances by Dr Girish G, Miss Adyasha, and the Euphonics Band, with audience members enthusiastically joining in to dance along to Bollywood tunes. Special addresses by Mr Raj Agarwal and Councillor Kanaya Singh praised the Centre’s efforts in promoting arts, culture, and community cohesion. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Girish Kothegal, celebrating the community’s support, volunteers, and sponsors who made this unforgettable evening possible.

The Indian Heritage Centre UK celebrated International Women’s Day on 2nd March 2025 at Lisvane Memorial Hall, Cardiff, honoring women’s achievements and empowerment. The event was graced by Janey Howell, High Sheriff of South Glamorgan, and Sheila Brown, CEO of C3SC, who shared inspiring messages on women’s empowerment. Highlights included melodious performances by Dr Liza Mukyopadyaya and Mrs Athreya Saha, a motivational talk by Ms Ann Sunny on pursuing passions, dynamic dance performances, and a vibrant fashion show organized by Dr Anjana Reddy. Ms Kushi Shetty also delighted the audience with her violin performance, and participants from Cardiff University added to the celebration. Seamlessly anchored by Dr Sunil Pulapaka, the event showcased talent, community spirit, and the power of women’s empowerment, leaving attendees inspired and engaged.

Indian Culture Day at Cyfarthfa Museum in Merthyr Tydfil: April 2025

Cyfarthfa Castle & Park, in association with the Indian Heritage Centre UK, hosted an engaging Indian Cultural Day at the Cyfarthfa Museum, Merthyr Tydfil on 7th April 2025. The event featured Indian classical dance workshops (Bharatanatyam) conducted by Mrs Rekha Girish from Rekha Natya Academy, which were enthusiastically received by children and museum staff alike. The Indian Heritage Centre UK also introduced visitors to Indian culture through interactive activities such as saree draping and Indian tea tasting, led by Mrs Tripti Megeri. The occasion was graced by Dawn Bowden, Minister for Children & Social Care, Wales, who appreciated the initiative. Special thanks were extended to Charlotte and the team at Cyfarthfa Castle & Park for promoting Indian culture to school students and visitors. Positive feedback from attendees highlighted the event’s success and impact.

Diabetes Awareness Seminar by Dr (Prof) Atul Kalhan: May 2025

The Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted an engaging seminar on Diabetes – Myths and Management with Dr (Prof) Atul Kalhan on 03/05/2025 focusing on the Indian and South Asian communities. Attended by doctors and members of the public, the seminar provided clear, evidence-based guidance on the prevention and management of diabetes. Dr Kalhan emphasized regular exercise, mindful eating, building muscle mass, and high-quality protein intake, while offering practical advice for Type I Diabetes management. He highlighted the importance of health improvement and prevention, encouraging participants that it is never too late to start. The session was introduced and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Sunil Pulapaka. The Centre thanks Dr Kalhan and all participants for contributing to this impactful community health initiative.

International Yoga Day Celebration by Indian Heritage Centre UK: June 2025

The Indian Heritage Centre UK celebrated International Yoga Day on 28th June 2025 at Coed Glas Primary School, Cardiff. Mrs Rekha Girish led a guided yoga session, with students from Rekha Natya Academy demonstrating poses and Miss Riya Kale explaining their benefits. The event was graced by Mrs Meredith (Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan), Mrs Davies (High Sheriff of South Glamorgan), Lt Commander Suzanne Lynch, and Captain Raj Agarwal, Honorary Consul of Wales India. Certificates of Participation were awarded to all attendees. Interactive anchoring by Dr Sunil Pulapaka and a vote of thanks by Dr Gireesh Kothegal made the celebration engaging and memorable, promoting health, wellbeing, and awareness of yoga within the community.

IHC UK at Community Culture Day – Celebrating Indian Heritage: 

The Indian Heritage Centre UK proudly participated in the Community Culture Day organized by Cyfarthfa Castle & Park, showcasing the richness of Indian culture to a diverse audience. Tripti Megeri engaged visitors with insightful conversations about Indian traditions, attire, and the wide variety of classical and folk dance forms. A highlight of the day was a vibrant Garba dance demonstration by Mrs Tejashree Joshi, a traditional folk dance from Gujarat performed during Navaratri. Attendees enthusiastically joined the interactive session, practicing the steps and dancing to the rhythmic music, creating an atmosphere full of energy and joy. The event was also a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Merthyr Malayali community, the Ukrainian team, and visitors from Italy. The celebration featured dance, food, art, and lively cultural exchange, making it a memorable experience for everyone. The Indian Heritage Centre UK extends thanks to the Cyfarthfa Castle team for organizing this vibrant community event.

Mysore Chitrakala Painting Exhibition in Cardiff:

The Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted an exclusive Mysore Chitrakala painting exhibition in Cardiff, showcasing classical art from Karnataka with intricate 22-carat gold leaf work. The exhibition featured works by Dr J. Dundaraja, Smt Uma Nagendra, and Sri Shashank Bharadwaj, celebrated for their meticulous technique and mythological themes. Rt Hon Lord Mayor Cllr Robson inaugurated the event with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, attended by Lady Mayoress Cllr Jayne Cowan, Cllr Kanaya Singh, Cllr Jasmine Choudhary, and the local community. Dr Sunil Pulpakka compered the ceremony, while Dr Girish Nagendra and Mrs Roopa Girish coordinated the event. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and heritage of Mysore Chitrakala and celebrate Indian art in Cardiff.

Annual Event: Surabhi - Cultural Evening by Indian Heritage Centre UK: November 2025

The Indian Heritage Centre UK hosted “Surabhi” on 22nd November 2025 at St Cyres School, Cardiff, celebrating Indian music, dance, and culture. The event was honoured by distinguished guests, including Mrs Morfudd Meredith (Lord-Lieutenant of South Glamorgan), Mark Drakeford (Cabinet Secretary for Finance), Kanishka Narayan (MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary for AI and Online Safety), Cllr Robson (Lord Mayor of Cardiff), Lady Mayoress Jayne Cowan, Mrs Davies (High Sheriff of South Glamorgan), and councillors Jasmine Chowdhary and Ramesh Patel. The evening showcased remarkable performances by singers Dr Girish G, Capt. Ajay Sawarkar, Mrs Atreyee Saha, and Dr Liza Mukhopadyay, along with dance presentations from Rekha Natya Academy students, Mrs Tejashree & Group, Mrs Kavitha Thota & Group, and Mrs Ishika Biswas & Group. Euphonics Band added lively music, engaging the audience throughout. The event was warmly introduced by Mrs Tripti Megeri, coordinated by the Executive Committee, and supported by volunteers and anchors Dr Sunil Pulapaka, Dr Liza Mukhopadyay, Miss Riya Kale, and Miss Kushi Shetty.
